What is BoBCAT?

Meet President Aaron Dean

BoBCAT BACKGROUND

Borough of Brooklyn Center for Arts &Technology (BoBCAT) was established by a group of concerned professionals to address the problem of chronically high unemployment among underrepresented populations, principally Black and Latinx communities, in Brooklyn, NY. To address this challenge, we established a training program with educational pathways to prepare our candidates for fields in which they will be able to pursue living wage careers without the need for a college degree. We source some of our candidates through the public school system, local universities, and community organizations.

OUR VISION

To provide Brooklyn-based under-served individuals, aged 19 and above (including unemployed youth, and people who attended but did not graduate from college) - with educational and career training, which will enable them to compete for high-growth jobs in high-wage sectors of a global society.

Workforce Methodology

In response to our conversations with various local employers throughout New York City, we work closely with prospective job providers to craft curricula which suit their respective needs and industry standards. More details in Programs Section.

Serving Community Needs

Based on research showing unemployment levels among our target populations are substantially higher than the national, state, or city averages in the neighborhoods of East New York, Brownsville, Bedford Stuyvesant, Flatbush and East Flatbush. BoBCAT will target central Brooklyn for our inaugural efforts, depending upon space and land availability.
